RIGHT?! I mean, the tire is the only thing connecting my car to the road. Why the hell not?
This morning in my 2014 Mazda5, I failed to avoid a piece of concrete debris in the road this morning and it blew out both tires on my driver side (significant chunk - at least it didn’t do any body or suspension damage). My tires were already about 2/3 worn, they were Continental PureContact with ECOSPORT technology. I liked them, they were great grand touring tires.
But for basically the same price, I opted for the Contental
EXTREME
CONTACT DWS 06 tires. Only discernible different was the tread rating fell from 700 on the PureContacts to 560 on the ExtremeContacts.
This is all fine, right? RIGHT!?!

good tires are always good tires, no matter what you put them on.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Plus, in the PNW, with all the rain and fairly poor road conditions, I’d prefer to have that extra grip/traction at my disposal.

Probably going to cost you a mile per gallon or two. That’s about it

If you’d gone with the ExtremeContact Sport summer tires I would’ve branded you a madman.

I’ve got those on my 328i. Very grippy, pretty soft so the ride is good, and they are solid tires in the snow.

Speaking of good tires, and before I spend two hours looking for the reply, didn’t you recommend some Carlisle tires for my tent trailer a while back? Do you remember what those were?

Thank you. I’ve always had clunky Load Star bias tires that have worn terribly.

Loadstar = terrible. Bias ply = terrible wear. I went though 2 entire tires on a trip to yellowstone last year. never again. These radials are more stable, they heat up less, they ride better and they wear like tires not cheese.

Nothing wrong with it, but they will probably be a bit louder and wear down more quickly. Regardless, get out there and make use of your new sticky treads!

Obviously higher performance means it’s stickier which means you can turn really fast at high speeds and scare everyone in the vehicle it’s the safest choice!

Hmm... these come in my size, too. Maybe I should consider these when it comes time to replace the TrueContacts I run during the non-winter months...

Mine were in 205 50/17s. There were a lot of options. I’ll try to remember to report in after a few days of use.

I’m in stop-go traffic half of my commute every day anyway, so my MPG isn’t a huge priority. I hover around the 23 mpg unless I’m way out on the open highway (then 26+)

I have a set of those on my Fit (205/50/16). They have about 10k on them, and they have been very good- I really liked having them with the heavy rain we got on my commute home tonight.... I did “lose” about 1 mpg compared to “regular” all season tires, but the trade off is worth it

Excellent tires. I run them on my 55. Only way to improve in that category in my opinion is Michelin AS3's.

I drove to the East Coast and back twice on Loadstars. And it wore them out each time.
